General Conference

| The General Conference is held every four years and includes nearly 1,000 delegates -- half lay and half clergy -- from the United States, Africa, Europe and the Philippines. Following each General Conference, the church's Book of Discipline and Book of Resolutions are revised. All members of The United Methodist Church share in its manifold ministries at home and abroad, and the work committed to us prospers as a result of the financial stewardship of the General Council on Finance and Administration.

| This council is accountable to United Methodists through the General Conference in all matters relating to the receiving, disbursing, and reporting of funds contributed for the support of national and worldwide ministries. These funds are sent by annual conference treasurers to us and are then distributed to the various agencies that have responsibility for those ministries—all in keeping with budgets approved by the General Conference. We are also responsible for assuring that general church funds are used in accordance with approved budgets, that agencies' financial records are properly audited, and that reports on their income and expenditures are available to the General Conference and to annual conferences and local church administrative boards that request them.

| MUM seeks social justice in regards to poverty and racism in Dane County. MUM works on several issues such as housing for all, re-entry of formerly incarcerated people, healthy neighborhoods, and mentoring children who have a parent that is incarcerated. MUM identifies, studies, urges action, and works together for social justice in the broader community.
